This work for male voices uses the melody and words from the traditional Australian folksong Moreton Bay. The folksong is about life in the penal colony at Moreton Bay in Queensland where, under the tyrant Captain Patrick Logan, the prisoners suffered greatly for their petty crimes. The creation of this folksong arose from Captain Logan’s legendary reputation as one of the most brutal Australian penal colony officers. The folksong offers a wistful and dramatic account of Captain Logan and the cruelty endured by the convicts.
