Hope this might be comforting to anyone dealing with lockdown or any hardship; an excerpt of my Australian Song Cycle, set to be performed by the amazing @sydneychamberchoir in late June before being postponed by COVID, seemingly indefinitely for now 💔

This is an a cappella choral movement but obviously on piano here. The words to be sung here are Henry Lawson’s:

“Who now shall wear the cheerful face
In times when things are slackest?
And who shall whistle round the place
When Fortune frowns her blackest?

Oh, may the showers in torrents fall,
And all the tanks run over;
And may the grass grow green and tall
In pathways of the drover” (at Brisbane, QLD Australia)

Thanks @classicfm for mentioning @winchestercathedral’s upcoming online concert for the Southern Cathedrals Festival which will include a stunning performance of my piece “How Shall We Sing In A Strange Land.”

I believe the performance is at 7pm Friday night UK time. I’ll be trying to tune in from all the way over here in Australia

Huge thanks to @couriermail’s Phil Brown for a great chat about my new “Ancient Rainforest” piece for Chris Williams (didgeridoo) and the @southerncrosssoloists1.

Sadly the concert this weekend is postponed due to COVID, but I believe the art gallery performances will go ahead on the Gold Coast at the Hub Of The Arts.

Can’t wait to share this with you all, and happy #NAIDOCWeek2021. It’s an honour and a privilege to celebrate First Nations culture. Thank you from Kurilpa Country 🙏❤️💛🖤🙏 (at Kurilpa Park)

Wishing everyone a happy #NaidocWeek2021 as we celebrate the wonders of the longest continuous culture; our First Nations Australians.

I have had the honour setting words to music by First Nations poet and activist #OodgerooNoonuccal in two of my choral works, most recently in my “Australian Song Cycle.” Pictured is an excerpt of this poem, “Time Is Running Out”; a poignant message of anger at the destruction of sacred, stolen land and the hope of a better tomorrow as we continue to deal with climate change.

Very much looking forward to being with the amazing @sydneychamberchoir when this is finally performed when lockdowns are lifted and singing is safe again.

Happy NAIDOC week everyone and hello from Kurilpa country

Here’s an example of the inspiration for my next #WorldPremiere on July 11 – a new chamber piece I just finished this week called “The Ancient Rainforest” for the wonderful @southerncrosssoloists1. The piece is in celebration of and inspired by #WilliamRobinson’s incredible Australian rainforest landscape paintings and will feature Chris Williams playing the Didjeridoo. It also includes the tuneful calls of a Butcher Bird that I heard from my Brisbane apartment recently.

Stay tuned for more details in the media about this 🙏💖 (at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia)
